Things Change, but Here's A Little Throwback to Catmon

There are fine shores we'll keep coming back to, reminding us of all the happenings which transpired there. Yet also telling us of all the better things to come. That's home: the safe harbor where the things you left behind will still be waiting for you, no matter how long or where your travels may take you, it will always stay.

It could be within yourself, others, or a place, as long as it reminds you of who really are and all the things you love and hold dear.

Home.

It's been long since I've been home, back in Cebu. Palawan is beautiful and all, but I miss my family and my old friends. They remind me of who I really am, and they rekindle the little brittles I am deep inside.

But alas, college has made me stay here for the summer. Learning is fun and all, but I need my summer roadtrips and outings(even if they maybe near or far), and just plain 'ol doing nothing and not expecting much except a nice day I can spend watching TV, reading, drawing, or creating whatever. So, here's a little throwback to finer days, last summer of 2017.

This is what it's like to go to the north: open roads where you'll see quiet and calm beaches with only the wind to hear, and tons of laughter. The north feels like a new land, unconquerable and undiscovered except only for us. Maybe it reminds of our dreams.

we'll soar high, baby

This is us, imagining we are by the coast of Italy, sipping on some martinis. I don't even know what a martini tastes like, but yeah, we're living the dream.

Sooooo, it's been long(as always). I always regret all these long pauses between writing; it honestly really bums me out when I can't get content out there. Aside from this, not writing for a long time makes me feel like I've become rusty. Surely, I have. But I've been busy being a lazy girl in college and fighting the slew of mental illnesses that have just appeared or resurfaced. I plan on talking about those things on my youtube channel: the wilderbritt. And heeeey, while we're on the topic of my youtube name, which is also my new blog name, lemme tell you about that...

In the next blogpost! Haha :P
See you next time, wildlings and critters of the forest!
A Brittle Bird is brittle no more!

Turtle's Point by the Abandoned Hotel(Catmon, Cebu)

My friend and I drove far north of Cebu to the municipality of Catmon to find this abandoned and unfinished hotel(I guess you could call it that; we are not at all certain whether it truly is a hotel) just a kilometer before reaching the Catmon Cathedral. The hotel was said to be unfinished due to some complications with its legality, I'm not sure. This is also where what the locals call "Turtle's Point" is located because Sea Turtles frequent this place. But I suppose now that humans are coming here often, the turtles come here less and less now. We barely saw any on our visits here. And they are wise to stay away from us. We humans are a dangerous species.

People usually come here to jump off from the balcony of the hotel into the crystal clear water(sometimes, they even go as far as jumping off from the roof!). It's about a 15 ft drop, I think(maybe 30 from the roof. I'm not good with estimating so mehh). When we arrived to this place, we saw a bunch of kids doing just that. I would've jumped into the water myself, but finding a way back up the hotel seemed hard and tedious. Perhaps next time. Maybe when they add a ladder or stairs.

After visiting the hotel, we drove farther north to Bogo(it was a really long drive and our butts started aching!) because we wanted to see if there were better adventuring sites. There weren't. But we got to see this nice little place with a wonderful view of the hills. So that long, hot ride was worth it(I guess?)

The hat I am wearing, btw, is called a "Cloche." Quite fancy, eh? I have taken a liking for hats(especially the old, vintage kinds) and I got this for a really decent price!

And that's it for today, little critters! Till next time once again!

Hug me, I'm Home

If pickup lines are still your thang, I got the best one for you(if you're dealing with a quirky, weird person): "Are you extraterrestrial? Because you can open up the heavens for me with just one smile."
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how you get them to fall for you. jk. NEVER use pickup lines again. Pls. For the sake of humanity.

I honestly do not know what to write for this post. Shall I talk about the adventure that I had with these three idiots? I feel that would bore you. The little talks, laughs and silly antics may seem so mundane to you, dear reader, but to me, it was some fantastic and wonderful thing. That how despite college becoming a barrier to the friendship I have with these people, we were still able to hang out like we used to.

Or should I talk about this rug I'm wearing? lol. I found it at a thriftshop and thought "eeeeek, it looks so boho and so indie" so I bought it. Haha, I hope that justifies me wearing this rug but more appropriately it's called a "poncho." So take that! haha.

And now I end this blog post. See you, lovely humans!

Somewhere Only We Know

We found this certain place and thought it was magic. We said to keep this place to ourselves so that it would remain only ours. I know it was selfish of us. But if you were in our shoes, you'd want to keep it for yourself as well. Although I told them I wouldn't tell anyone about it, you guys will get to know about it and witness the pictures firsthand. Perks of being my readers haha.

This will be your facial expression when you experience Palawan in the summer. The heat is just unbearable! And the water, let me tell you, what a nightmare! Every barangay will have a schedule for when their water comes back on, because apparently, Palawan's water sources are scarce for the summer! And how unlucky for me, the schedule for our district is 12 am-6 am. But you can manage. Just prepare lots of buckets.

So as per usual, whenever stress overcame our senses, my friends and I would spontaneously go somewhere on a whim and we found this fabulous place! Seriously, everywhere you turn, everything is instagram-worthy. At first, we doubted whether this would be a nice-looking place or not, but then as we started exploring, we said sorry to our friend for doubting her(she was the one who suggested it). During the exploration, we found this awesome, creepy-looking, western-y, abandoned house that sported a huge cactus. This cactus was taller than the whole house(and the house was two-storeys high!), I was so astounded by it. The first three pics are of the house.

We put the "us" in fabulous. lol. Does that even make sense.

The next section of the place we ventured to was their restaurant. Radiating this tribal and vintage vibe, we couldn't help but to take pictures around it. That's when we found this pineapple and thought "woah, so summer-y! Eeeek!"

"Hey, good-lookin'. You here alone?"

There were so many more places around the resort that was so beautiful. And the entrance fee isn't too much. If you add fifty pesos, you can avail of a breakfast meal of your choice. You will definitely find it worth it. As for accommodations, there are rooms, a pool and a restaurant. The shallowest part of the pool is five feet and the deepest is 8 ft. But they have a jacuzzi you can just wallow in if you like. I'll let you check it out yourself. The name of the place is Royal Oberoi and you can check there website out here. I hope you have a wonderful time there!

And that, folks, is how you endorse a pineapple.

Till next time, lovely critters of the forest!

Para-para-paradise

It was just one of those days when we felt like we were being suffocated by the college life and so we decided to go chilling by the beach. At a magical place called Microtel here in Palawan.

We arrived at the vicinity and didn't think that it looked like much. It was rather a humble resort on the inside, but on the outside, it offered so much more(meaning, a pool and well, a beach and a fancy restaurant)! We paid 300 pesos for the entrance fee then went on our merry way to change into our swimwear.

The pool was rather small, but we were content to just wallow in its shallow waters and talk about the events of the passed weeks. How I love going out with these girls and excavating for the hidden lessons that each unique experience has to offer. After chilling in the pool, we laid on our stomachs by the beach. As you can notice, the tide was very, very, very, VERY low. Like, seriously. If you wanna really dip and enjoy the waves of the beach, this one isn't for you(well, it might be during the night. or you can check the calendar). Anyways! We spent the whole afternoon under the sun talking about school and everything in general. Also, planning for our future adventures together.

And that is it for this post! Sorry for not posting in a long while. It's our finals week, but we have one exam left, so wish me luck!

And if you have any questions about Microtel, feel free to leave a comment or email me.

Till next time, lovely critters of the forest!

If Autumn were Here

"Winter is an etching, spring a watercolor, summer an oil painting, and autumn a mosaic of them all."
-Stanley Horowitz

Trees here in the Philippines don't change color but we can make believe it's autumn, can't we?
I hope you enjoyed these pictures; I had a fun time editing these to give them a fall feel :)
Leave your comments or insights, you're always welcome here. Feel right at home!

Featured in this post is a rare creature called Shawn, he blogs here. And the one who shot all these photos (and am very thankful to him for!)is an awkward creature named Larlo(the one in the picture up above) who also blogs; visit him here.

Till next time, lovely critters of the forest!
